    PORT HANDLING SYSTEMS INDIA 2004- A Retrospect

    Port Handling Systems India 2004, The International Conference and Exhibition for Port handling of Dry Bulk, Breakbulk and Containers concluded on 8th October 2004 at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, Mumbai.

    The event saw world experts in port handling coming together with traders, shippers and port personnel to discuss the latest in Port Technology and the status of World and Indian Ports today. Over 175 participants attended the 2 day conference and about 35 participants registered for the post event tour to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust that took place on 8 October, Friday.

    While most presentations were directed at industry, application and development, we had several papers from the academia sector as well. Emerging trends and technology in port handling were discussed giving the participants a comprehensive overview of the latest in bulk port handling.

    The Exhibition:

    Over 36 exhibitors showcased state-of-the-art Port Handling Equipment from all over the world. These included FFE Minerals which bagged the award for the best stall and Thyssen Krupp worldwide that came a close second. Other stalls included B&W Aumund, Netherlands, BMH Marine, Sweden; Buhler, India; GE Energy, India; Larsen and Toubro, India; Komatsu Asia Pacific, Singapore; Koch Transporttechnik, Austria; Liebherr-Werk Nenzing, Sweden; Lots Shipping, India; Sahil Freight Express, India; MMP Filtration, India; Phoenix Yule, India; Soros Associates, Australia, Scorpio Engineering, India and others.

    The Post Event Tour:
    A post event tour was organised to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
    Certified ISO 9001:2000, JNPT is one of the top 30 ports in the world and handles 60% of the total containerised cargo in India. A visit was organised to their International Container Terminal and lunch was served at the greenest port in India!
    The participants also met with principal officers of the port and were taken on a guided tour of the Port Operational Area.
