Laurentian University is located in Sudbury, at the heart of Ontario’s hard-rock mining industry. Laurentian is undertaking a major initiative to build on and strengthen its research and development contributions to the mining industry. Part of this initiative involved the creation of the Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO). The focus of this not-for-profit corporation is the development and translation of research knowledge into practical technology that supports sustainable mining practices and economic diversification. In pursuit of these goals Laurentian is now seeking applications for the following newly created position.

Qualified candidates will have an earned graduate degree (preferably a Ph.D.) in applied science or an engineering field relevant to the research focus of the position, an outstanding knowledge of modern technology, a demonstrated track record in attracting funded research and development projects and experience working on projects with significant industry participation. International recognition in a relevant research area will provide the basis from which to build a multi-disciplinary team from engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, earth and computer science. The position will be a tenure track or long-term contract position with much reduced teaching responsibilities, reporting to the directorship of MIRARCO.

Potential and preferred areas of R&D focus are:
