    Roller Presses
for Briquetting, Compaction, and High-Pressure Grinding

Fertilizer compacting – A classical application for Roller Presses

Compacting is one of the major application for roller presses besides briquetting and high pressure grinding. A fine grain material is agglomerated into a continuous strip of defined thickness, the so-called sheet or flake. The flake will be crushed and screened to produce a coarse-grain material. A typical sample for this type of compaction process is agricultural fertilizer, which will be converted into a granular product to avoid dust generation and quick dissolution while applied to fields.

Potassium chloride and other salts are mined and processed in large quantities with a particle size of less than 1 mm. With progressing mechanical advance in, e.g. farming application, larger sized particles in the range of 1 – 4 mm, lately more tending to 2 – 4 mm, are in demand.

Köppern know-how has been recognized around the world, e.g. for potash compaction. Within the last 10 years, the total flake capacity ordered for Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany and Russia, has been exceeding 12 Mio tpa.
