    Cone Valve Technology

As an alternative for discharging difficult-to-flow products that achieves massflow discharge, a Cone Discharger Valve is a viable solution. When energized, the cone lifts and lowers on timed intervals (pulses) to put vertical force into the product, breaking up bridges and ratholes. Additionally, there is internal vibration which is only activated when the cone is fully raised to further promote product flow. This combination of flow enhancers not only "gets product out", but also achieves massflow discharge. For more information, you can refer to the following link

  2. Cone Valves and Mass Flow

The benefits of cone valves are well established and they offer a useful option for overcoming discharge problems when the required outlet size is smaller than the critical arching dimension for the bulk material. However, the claim that they achieve mass flow must be qualified. This may be true for small bulk storage vessels, like some IBCs, but whether a hopper mass flows or not is dependent upon the geometry and construction of the container walls in relation to the contact friction and internal friction of the bulk material. A detailed overview of an expert system chart for hopper design and selection of discharge methods is shown on www.ajax.co.uk. Technical publications are also available from the company on flow problems are their solutions.

    Cone Valve Technology

It's perhaps important to point out that the three posts above are, of course, biased towards their respective companies. Daniel Ruble (of Matcon, NJ, USA), Lyn Bates (of AJAX Equipment Ltd., Bolton, UK) and Steve (I can only assume "Steve Miles" of ISL Ltd, Gloucestershire, UK) will all, naturally, point out the benefits of their own technology or expertise.

The most important thing is to remove all reasonable doubt by testing your own material using the actual equipment you intend to buy. Any materials-handling equipment supplier worth its salt will have facilities available for you to evaluate exactly how your material performs.

Visiting a potential supplier will also give you the chance to see what kind of company you're dealing with; its size, experience and references should all affect your decision.

    Hope this helps,

    Colin

I WOULD LIKE TO PUT THE RECORD STRAIGHT RE CONE VALVER TECHNOLOGY.

    1. IT IS KIND OF DTEVE MILES TO RECOMMEND ISL AGAINST MATCON BUT STEVE DOES NOT WORK FOR ISL AND HIS OPINIONS ARE PERSONAL TO HIM ONLY.

    2. I IMVENTED THE MATCON TECHNOLOGY IN 1980 AND DEVELOPMENTS SINCE UNTILL I SOLD OUT IN 1998.

2I INVENTED THE ISL CONE VALVE SYSTEM AFTER THAT TO ADDRESS SOME OF THE LIMITATIONS AND PROBLEMS OF THE MATCON SYSTEM.

    4. I BELIEVE PRODUCTS SHOULD STAMD ON THEIR OWN MERITS AND I AFREE IT IS WRONG TO SLATE THE COMPETITION AND IT'S PRODUCTS; BUT IT IS FAIR AND VALID TO COMPARE FUNCTIONS, PERFORMANCE PRICE GAINST YOUR MAIN COMPETITORS.

    5. IF AMYONE WOULD LIKE MY ADVICE ON THEIR PWDER PROBLEMS, PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECT AT ivan@conevalve.com.

    REGARDS

    Cone Valve

I would like to make something clear..........this is not Steve Miles I have no idea who that is. I work for a world wide company that is in the process of implenting ISL's cone valve for the use of fine powder that rat holes, bridges etc. we researched and have full confidence that this is the best solution for us. The simplicity and ease of diassembly for cleaning is extremely adavantagous.
