Thread: Measuring Moisture in a Flow of Granular Material

We'd like to measure the actual moisture content of a
moving stream of granular organic material (agricultural
compost). Granules are approximately pea size to a bit
larger and irregularly shaped. Typical moisture levels
will be in the 70-85% range. The measurement could be
done where the material falls from the processing machine
into a screw conveyer hopper. The output rate is about
10 tons/hour but may be increased. Measurement can be
a moving average over approximately 15-45 seconds if
this will give a more accurate assessment of the bulk
of the material and more repeatable results.

This is an agricultural process...the means for measuring
must stand up to commercial agricultural conditions.

    Thanks for your interest

    Eric Sandel

Hydronix Ltd specialises in the research, development and design of online microwave moisture measuring systems. Although our systems are used primarily in the concrete industry for measuring the moisture in aggregates, we are also involved with other applications including cement, animal feed, asphalt, grain, clay and sugar.

We are always happy to check feasibility by performing laboratory experiments, and would ask for sample of the material.
