    POWTECH 2004: AVA-Huep

    AVA-Huep is a well known manufacturer of mixers, dryers and evaporators. A separate devision, called AVA econ industries, is responsible for the planning and building of whole installations around the mixing and drying process.
    .
    The delivery range of AVA-Huep is split up into two different sectors:
    1. The traditional Horizontal mixers, dryers and evaporators
    2. The innovative, modern Vertical, cone mixers, dryers and evaporators

    1. The Horizontal mixers, dryers and evaporators

    AVA Horizontal mixers are built as single shaft mixers with product specific paddle designs. They are available as well for batch operating (Type HTC) as for continuous operating (type HTK). Their mixing action is based on turbulent flow in a mechanically induced fluid bed or alternatively in agitated bulk. Both types are suited for gentle homogenising, for the preparation of powder mixtures, for solid/liquid and even pasty mixtures.

    The following process steps can be operated: Homogenising, Desagglomeration, Granulation, Heating and cooling, Humidification, Reactions, Coating, Extraction, Compaction

    If requested AVA mixers are built with extremely wear resistant designs, specific chopper blades and linings against abrasion, corrosion and adhesion. The manufacturing is possible in all materials from carbon steel to high grade alloys. AVA builds individual discharging systems like continuously variable weirs, various types of process specific seals, dust and explosion proof designs, CIP cleaning systems and as a matter of course - GMP designs.

    Very special alternatives are the AVA batch dryers, type HTC-T, and continuous dryers, type HTK-T, as all-round performers. The rotating mixing tools move the product along the heated wall of the mixing drum. The blending of the entire bulk volume leads to a uniform product temperature and humidity in the drum. The special shape of the mixing tools assures an optimal heat exchange between product and wall. The result: short drying times which can be additionally reduced by vacuum. Operation under vacuum also allows the drying of explosive products with low ignition temperature. The heat transition coefficient or the evaporation per heating area in an AVA dryer can be influenced by variation of the agitator speed. The paddle arrangement also allows to adjust the speed and degree of homogenising. Drying temperature are from 20 to 350 C, heating media are steam, thermal oil or water, coolants are saline solutions or water. The heat transfer is effected through jacket, half pipes or shaft.

    There are some specials, that mark the technical advantages of AVA dryers:
    - Pressure and vacuum proof discharge valves, clearance free, high temperature proof, with inflatable seals.
    - Shaft sealing systems: gland packings, rotary shaft seals, special maintenance free lip seals, mechanical seals.
    - Disintegration of agglomerates with fast running chopper blades.


    2. The Vertical cone mixers, dryers and evaporators

    AVA vertical mixers (Type HVW) are well suited for various mixing-, homogenizing- and granulation batch processes. The range of applications reaches from free flowing, dry bulk materials to cohesive and moist powders all the way to wet cakes and slurries. They vertical mixers consist of a conical vessel with a dished head. The agitator shaft is driven from its top end by a variable speed electric motor through a gear reducer. In the vessel a double helical ribbon agitator moves the product upward along the outer wall. The helix simultaneously mixes the product extremely gentle and prevents deposits on the wall. In the centre of the vessel the product flows down to be picked up again at the bottom and returned to the mixing process. Compared to other systems it operates at substantially lower speeds. Disintegration of agglomerates is enabled most often without additional tools. Drive and bearings are kept outside of the process room. There is no danger of product contamination by lubricants. The simple construction without deflection gear in product wetted areas guarantees low maintenance and reliable machines. Product discharge is nearly complete, facilitated by the moving agitator and the absence of a lower bearing. AVA vertical mixers are available both as pharmaceutical GMP models and as dust- and ex-proof models. Easy cleaning is guaranteed. They are designed with various shaft sealing systems: gland packings and lip seals, special maintenance free lip seals and mechanical seals. Product discharge is operated through gate-, ball-segment or ball valves.

    Very special alternatives are the AVA vertical dryers (HVW-VT), suited for various batch drying and evaporation processes The helix moves the product upward along the outer wall and assures an intensive contact with the heat transfer area. The resulting vertical circular product movement leads to a uniform product temperature and humidity in the vessel. For shorter drying times vacuum can be applied and the agitator can be heated. Compared to a cylindrical vessel the cone offers a larger heating area relative to the volume and thus shortened drying times with very high k values and evaporating capacity

    An AVA Plus Filter Systems
    AVA-Huep has a very special know-how around filtering systems.
    - The use of surface filters prevents dust propagation into subsequent process equipment
    - Return of filtered dust into the vessel through pneumatic filter cleaning
    - High efficiency and low filter volume with special filter materials: textile, metal and sintered metal filters automatically cleaned by compressed air or nitrogen.
    - Heating of filter housing and pressure tank to avoid condensation in filter media.
