Thread: Used Level Luffing Crane Wanted + CSU Offered

    Used Level Luffing Crane Wanted

    I have a customer (port operator) who is presently seeking to procure a used level luffing crane to unload the following cargo onto*their existing conveyor system. The crane should*be suitable for vessels*up to Panamax size.

    1. Clinker/Slag cement

    2. Ammonium Nitrate/NPK/Urea/Other fetilizers

    3. Gypsum

    4. Mop

    The maximum capacity of the crane should preferably be 800 tph.*However, they may be willing to consider 600 tph depending on whatever is available in the market. The limitation is that the crane must be able to fit into their existing 10m span rails. The crane should able be in good serviceable condition preferably with spare parts.

    At the same time, they are also looking for a buyer for their existing CSU which they have found to be unsuitable for unloading cement. Please request the CSU datasheet and please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions on this matter.

  2. Selecting the correct ship unloader

    Thank you Dr. Wohlbier for posting my inquiry on the forum.

    I would like to elaborate a bit more on my previous message in the hope that it will generate more discussion on a very common problem faced by multi-product bulk terminal operators (in our case cement and fertilizer.)

    Cement and fertilizer are two products with very different physical (and chemical) characteristics. From a design standpoint, trying to unload both using a single type of unloader poses a great challenge. Fertilizer, being a granular free-flowing material, is open to a wider choice of equipment ranging from grabs to pneumatic systems. Cement, on the other hand, is powdery and hardens upon contact with water. To date, pneumatic unloaders with suction nozzles capable of digging into the pile have proven to be the most suitable.

    On the outset, it would appear that the pneumatic unloader would be the logical choice if one is limited to choosing only a single piece of equipment to unload both types of cargo. However, because flexible hoses and pipes are used to convey the material, they are difficult to clean after each shipment to avoid product contamination.

    Grab systems meanwhile require elaborate dedusting arrangements to reduce airborne fines when handling cement but are much easier to clean.

    I understand that a port operator in Spain has successfully implemented such a system (using grabs) and would therefore like to invite comments from anyone with past experience and knowledge in this area.

    dear barry,
    the main problem of using grabs is that u will get only 30-40%
    out put of the required capacity so u should be smart enough to select the grab.
    the design of the hopper where the grab will unload the material
    has to be special with proper dust collector other wise lot of dust will be generated and can face problems from enviroment dept.

    Thank you for your replies.

    In particular, I would like to ask Mr. Anil if he or anyone else have experience or knowledge or recommendations for a suitable unloader that can handle both cement and fertilizer. The only one that I can think of right now would be a dual cargo unloader incorporating a pneumatic system for cement and a separate grab/pneumatic system for fertilizer.

    Would appreciate a response from you or anyone in the forum.

    dear barry- please note that pnuematic unloaders consume lot of power and unloading of cement from them is easy as compare to
    fertiliser,due to its hygroscopic nature and near to port pnuematic
    unloader is not advisable for fertiliser.why don't you give us specificatons for both the materials , unloading rate and details of the equipment after unloading point we will give u every thing
    relates to this job.for your information we done no of jobs related to this.
    recently we have design a cement and clincker unloading station for a company in the gulf region where we have design the following-

    1.unloading of cement and clincker by pnuematically and grab.
    2.moveable unloading hopper.
    3.silo feeding and extraction of cement from hoppers.
    4.stockpiling of clincker and extraction of the samre to cement mill.
    5.high speed loading stations for bulk cement under the silo.
    6.automatic packing and loading system.
    7.grinding facilities including provision for fly ash.

  8. Dear sir,
    as for fertilizers, the best way to discharge it is by grabs,to mobile bagging machines placed on berth under the vessel.
    penumatic unloaders or vacuvators are not suitable for fertilizers,and can damage the unloader or the vacuvator,as fertilizers tend to liquify under heat and pressure generated from the unloader or vacuvator.
    We do a lot of discharging and bagging operations for all kinds of fertilizers and we are prfessionals in this field.
    As for cement,sorry its not our field and u will need a special unloader for discharging it.

    thank u for your reply to my message.
    i am sorry i am not involved into cement discharge and bagging operations.
    i am into wheat,corn,soya bean,soya bean meal,sugar,tea and fertlizers discharge and bagging operations and also innner and outer anchor lighting vessels.
    i also manufacture the mobile bagging machines ECC standard with the highest bagging rate in the world with adjustable weighers from 25-85 kg.
    my bagging plants can reach a rate of 250 ton/hour depending on the bagged material and the trucks availability.
    stitching machines are FICHBIN (American brand)
    welding machines(for plastic bags-BOSCH)

    I also manufacture belt conveyors up to 40 meters long suitable for loading panamax vessels.

    since i manufacture the bagging machines i always need load cells and digital weighing indicators from known brands and heavy duty...this is the only thing i buy and dont manufacture for my bagging plants, so if u can offer me reasonable prices for the above of known heavy duty brands, i will really appreciate it.
