Thread: Tanker Loading Dust Control

  1. Lightbulb Tanker Loading Dust Control

Pennaire Filtration prevent tanker filling dust emissions.

There are many bulk powder processing operations which transport their finished products by rail or road tanker. Filling tankers from a bulk storage facility will inherently generate dust as the air from the empty tanker is displaced by the incoming material.

    BEFORE:
As shown in the photograph, without correctly designed abatement equipment the dust emissions are clearly visible.
Preventing emissions during tanker venting has a number of difficulties. The equipment has to be very substantial to withstand multiple use by various operators, the position of the tanker vent can vary at each fill so the hood must be manoeuvrable but should stay in position once fitted. These problems have been overcome and successful dust free tanker venting achieved by one delighted flour producer with the installation by Pennaire Filtration Ltd of an articulated dust extraction arm with complimentary duct work and fan set.
The photograph on the right shows the arm and hood in place on the tanker venting hatch just prior to filling.

    AFTER:
During tanker filling and with the arm in place, the photograph shows that there are no visible dust emissions whatsoever.
The tanker filling system is interlocked with the extraction fan to ensure filling cannot take place without extraction.
The dust which was previously released to atmosphere as waste is now collected at source and pneumatically conveyed back to the bulk storage facility.
