    Designing a Chain Conveyor

    Hi Everybody,

I am interested in designing a chain conveyor of a very short length (2.5 m) and width 1.2 m . Can anybody help me in designing this sequentially. i.e., how to start and proceed further

  2. Hello Mohammed Assadullah,

Please inform the following details for enabling to respond to the subject matter.

    1) Material name
    2) Material bulk density, size, temperature etc.
    3) Capacity MTPH
    4) Inclination
    5) Name of plant (whether Cement Plant, Fertilizer Plant, Power Plant etc)
    6) Method of feeding.

Whether the conveyor is also to act as a feeder?

    Regards,
    Ishwar G Mulani.

  3. Hello Mr. Mohammed Assadullah:

As Mr. Mulani has indicated, more information is required. What product is being carried? Do you want this to be a single strand or two strand conveyor? What environmental conditions apply (i.e. a chain conveyor in a foundry may have to withstand high heat and high abrassion; a chain conveyor in a paint shop may have to withstand chemical attack, and a chain conveyor in a processing plant will likely be run under ambient conditions). Also, what speeds are required?

As far as design is concerned, your first step will be to calculate the chain pull. From this, you can determine the drive requirement, sprocket size, etc. Your carry and return run designs will depend on the type of chain used. And the take-up will normally be a screw type.

You need to look in the Conveyor Design Handbook from the Reynolds Chain website.
