    Belt conveyor design... any help appreciated!

    Dear Sirs,

    I am currently working to produce a theoretical pre-feasibility study for a small Gold-Copper deposit. The mine is located near Timmins, Canada and the rough design of the conveyor system is as follows:

    - Running from the lowest level of the mines crushing station at 220 metres depth.
    -100 metres of flat run then
    -133 metres at a 1:4 incline
    - crossover
    -413 metres at a 1:4 incline to surface

    The output of the mine has been estimated at about 600 tonnes per hour.

    I would greatly appreciate any advice on choice and sizing of machinery that is necessary for this design and any problems that may be encountered.

    Greetings Paul,

    Many will, I am sure be interested in the design of this project. I have some knowledge of the Timmins gold area. I purchased the inverters from a gold mine property in Timmins when last disbanded. Could it be the same property?

    Key component, in designing for your conveyor, is the design criteria for temperature and moisture range, rock size to be handled, feed surge specification, and make sure to install a UPS for the braking system. As I recall, the gold mine I refer to had great difficulty with the process related to the weather.

    Could you post the rock size and temperature range to be handled. I will thereafter post some information on the conveyor's design specs.

    Dear Nordell,

    thank you for your reply, this is the updated information I have available for the project:

    - lift one is actually 360m long with a 90m lift
    - lift two is 400m long with a 100m lift
    -belt width has been assumed at 800mm with a safety factor added
    -crushing station is therefore expected to be at 190m level
    -primary crushing should produce a P80 of around 20mm

    Unfortunately we are having problems discovering what the ground water conditions are at the moment, as the information is limited to what we have been given!

    Some Design Data for Your Project

    Paul,

    Bit confused by your slope data. Why do you callout two sections with the same slope rate in length (m) x elev (m) : a) 360 x 90 ; b) 400 x 100 or 0.25 for each?

    Here are some preliminary figures:

    1. capacity = 600 dmtph
    2. speed = 2 m/s
    3. belt width = 750 mm
    4. strength = ST-2500 N/mm
    5. power = 450 kW
    6. edge clear. = 117 mm contains P80 ~20mm of max ~100 mm.
    8. density = 2000 kg/cm

  6. Dear Paul Tuerena
    Please also specify the material bulk density. The crushing station is located at -190m level. How is the material transported from mining point to crushing station. If it is by conveyor, then what is the material size applicable to conveyor between mining point and crushing station?
    As you have stated, the crushing station output material nominal size is 20mm.
    This implies that most of the conveying system will be handling material of nominal size 20mm.
    The flight lengths you have mentioned are horizontal distance or along conveyor? Your specified inclination gradient 1:4 means conveyors inclination around 14 degree, which seems to be in order.
    What is the planning for storage and reclamation at surface? The mine out-coming conveyors system will have technical linkage to the conveyor system at surface level. Whether you need to store ore of different grade in separate stock-plies, blending etc.
